Why writing a blog?
One of the first things I constantly heard while preparing this webpage was: the best thing you can do, in terms of public relations, positioning, increasing awareness etc. is to write a Blog… and my answer was always the same: I am many things, a lawyer and an economist, a professional advisor and a business plan expert, passionate art-collector, mother and wife, but a writer? A blogger?, A trendsetter?
When I suddenly remembered why I became a lawyer, and decided to go for it. I have always enjoyed the classic, great American movies: Katharine Hepburn in “Bringing up Baby” (I prefer the Spanish title: “La fiera de mi nina”) or “What ever happened to baby Jane” with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, but mostly, I was (and still am) fond of those movies in which a smart (and yes, mostly also good looking) attorney would play with the words, with the facts, captivate the jury and succeed in prevailing justice. At the time I was probably not older than ten or twelve, and I resolutely decided that I wanted to be one of them.
Although there was no “precedent” in my family, which for generations had grown wheat and later on grapes in the northern Spanish wine region of La Rioja; and my mother, who, following my grandfather’s wishes, became a Pharmacist (and one of the very first women in her town to gain an university degree), insisted a lot in following her career steps, I remained determined and went on to study Law and Economics at the University of Deusto, in Bilbao (some years before the Guggenheim museum finally put city on the cultural map of Europe).
I have never formally practiced law –every once in a while I do regret it- or better said, I wonder how it would have been to have had the chance to stand in front of a Jury and “make my case”. On the other hand, every time I receive an investment proposal and have to take a decision is like making my case. By telling and in the extreme convincing yourself about the story behind the investment proposal– and also the one to come- and that’s somehow is not so far from the movies I saw in my childhood…
I hope this blog becomes the instrument to allow myself spreading the things that capture and motivate me and -why not-, play with the words, play with the facts and captivate you.
